Donald Trump Claims India Offered Tariff Cuts to US, Calls Trade ‘One-Sided’

Washington (The Uttam Hindu) – US President Donald Trump has once again stirred controversy by claiming that India has recently offered to reduce tariffs on American goods, but according to him, the offer came too late. Trump described the trade relationship between the two countries as “one-sided,” stating that India exports a large volume of goods to the US, while the US sells very little to India.
In a statement, Trump wrote, “Very few people understand that we trade very little with India, while they trade a lot with us. America is their biggest customer, but we sell them very little. Until now, this relationship has been completely one-sided and has been going on for decades. The reason is that India has imposed the highest tariffs on us, more than any other country, which prevents our businesses from selling their products in India.”
This statement comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has just completed his visit to China and is returning to India. During the SCO Summit, Modi sent a clear message to Trump that India has multiple trade options available. The remarks highlight ongoing tensions and challenges in US-India trade relations amid shifting global economic dynamics.
