Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Former U.S. President Donald Trump is once again making waves in international politics. After meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska to discuss the Ukraine war, Trump has now expressed hope of meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by the end of this year.

According to reports, Trump made this statement during his meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung at the White House on Monday. At the beginning of their talks, Trump mentioned Kim Jong Un and said, “I have very good relations with him. I think his country has immense potential. I am eager to meet him again.”

Trump has previously met Kim Jong Un three times during his presidency. Their first historic meeting took place in Singapore in June 2018, followed by a second summit in Hanoi, Vietnam in February 2019, and a third brief encounter in June 2019 at the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom.

South Korean President Lee praised Trump’s diplomacy, expressing hope that Trump could bring peace to the Korean Peninsula. Lee even remarked that if Trump had remained in office, Kim Jong Un might not have advanced his nuclear capabilities.

Trump’s recent diplomatic engagements have included efforts to mediate the Russia-Ukraine war, as well as his claims of playing a role in preventing escalation between Israel and Iran. With growing tensions in the Korean Peninsula, Lee hopes that Trump can play a crucial role in normalizing relations between the two Koreas.
