Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has suffered another major setback. A special court in Dhaka has sentenced Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana’s daughter, British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, in a case involving irregularities in plot allotment under the Purbachal New Town Project managed by the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK).

The court stated that Hasina, during her tenure as Prime Minister, misused her position to illegally obtain plots. According to the Anti-Corruption Commission, Hasina, along with senior RAJUK officials, unlawfully secured six plots in the diplomatic zone of Sector 27 in Purbachal, violating the Dhaka Improvement Trust Rules, 1969. The names linked to the illegal allotments include her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s son Rizwana Mujib Siddiq (Bobby), and daughter Azmina Siddiq.

With this verdict, the Anti-Corruption Commission has so far convicted Sheikh Hasina in a total of four corruption cases. This is being seen as a major setback for her political future and possible return to national politics.
