New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen recently urged citizens and local authorities to be prepared for any emergency. Comments by the United States regarding annexation of Greenland have raised security concerns in the region. Nielsen also clarified that the likelihood of a direct military confrontation is low, but it cannot be completely ruled out.

The Prime Minister stated that the government will form a special task force and will soon issue new guidelines. These guidelines will advise citizens to stockpile food and essential goods at home for at least five days, to avoid any potential emergency.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that Greenland should be under US control for security reasons. His comments have raised questions about Greenland's sovereignty and sparked international concern.

Greenland is considered the shortest route between North America and Europe in the Arctic region. This makes it strategically important for missile warning systems and maritime security. Furthermore, the island is believed to possess significant reserves of minerals, oil, and natural gas, making it economically significant.

Greenland is an autonomous territory under Denmark and is also considered part of NATO. Therefore, any military conflict could impact the entire international security architecture. Following Trump's comments, some NATO countries, including Denmark, have begun strengthening their defense preparations in Greenland. The Greenlandic government says citizens need not panic, but it is important to be "prepared for every eventuality" so that any potential crisis can be addressed in an organized and calm manner.
