Washington (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump has once again said that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming that he helped prevent several major wars and saved millions of lives. He said this included stopping a possible war between India and Pakistan. According to Trump, no other leader has prevented such large and dangerous conflicts in the way he has.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he resolved disputes that had been going on for decades and stopped new wars before they could escalate. He added that in many cases he achieved this without using military force. “Whether people like me or not, the truth is that I ended eight wars,” Trump said. He claimed that some of these conflicts had been continuing for 36, 32, 31, 28 and 25 years.

Referring to South Asia, Trump said the region is considered extremely dangerous. He claimed that due to US efforts, tensions between India and Pakistan were defused before turning into a full-scale war. At that time, aircraft had reportedly been shot down on both sides. Trump said the crisis was resolved quickly and without the use of nuclear weapons, which he described as one of his biggest achievements.

“I did it quickly and without nuclear weapons. I have saved millions of lives,” Trump said. He added that the number of lives saved alone makes him worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump also claimed that the Prime Minister of Pakistan had publicly stated that Trump’s intervention prevented a clash between India and Pakistan and saved at least 10 million lives.

He said, “The Prime Minister of Pakistan came here and made a very public statement. He said President Trump saved at least 10 million lives related to Pakistan and India. Our approach focused on direct talks and pressure instead of long wars. These were big wars that people thought could never be stopped.”

Trump compared his record with that of former President Barack Obama, who received the Nobel Peace Prize shortly after taking office. Taking a dig at Obama, Trump said even Obama did not know why he was given the award. Trump said he is not chasing prizes, but looking at his record, he believes he deserves the honour. He added that in principle, any leader who stops wars should receive the Nobel Peace Prize, saying, “I am not trying to brag.”

Trump also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had praised him. According to Trump, Putin said that wars he could not end in ten years were resolved by Trump. Trump stressed that for him, saving lives matters more than awards, especially when tensions involve nuclear-armed countries, as the potential destruction could be massive.

Trump made these remarks at a time when he is defending his foreign policy on issues related to Ukraine, Iran and other global conflicts. He said his approach prioritised prevention and diplomacy over prolonged military campaigns.
