“Imran Khan is alive,” says sister Uzma after coming out of jail; alleges ‘mental torture’

Rawalpindi (The Uttam Hindu): After meeting former Pakistan Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan inside Adiala Jail, his sister Uzma told the media that although his physical health is stable, he is being subjected to severe mental pressure.
Uzma met her brother on Tuesday and spent around 20 minutes with him inside the Rawalpindi prison. In a video clip shared on PTI’s official X account, she said Imran Khan looked angry and complained that he is not allowed to meet anyone, nor is any communication permitted. According to her, he said, “I am being mentally tortured, and Asim Munir is behind this.”
Asim Munir is the Chief of the Pakistan Army.
Speaking to reporters outside the jail, Uzma said she would share a detailed update after discussing the situation with her sisters Alima Khan and Noreen Khan. She was granted permission to meet Imran Khan only on Tuesday, as confirmed earlier by Dawn quoting jail officials. Over the past few weeks, PTI leaders, his sisters, and even his two sons had expressed concern about his well-being. Despite court orders, the party leadership and family members were repeatedly denied access to him.
PTI had warned of staging a sit-in outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and then marching towards the jail if the meeting was not allowed. Ahead of the planned protest, Section 144 was imposed in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi to prevent gatherings. Tension had been rising since last month when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi was denied permission to meet Imran Khan for the eighth time—even after he protested for 16 hours. Following this, PTI announced Tuesday’s demonstrations.
