Russia-India 'Bro Code': 'Friends Don't Impose Restrictions' – A Surprise to Trump

NEW DELHI (The Uttam Hindu): Amid President Donald Trump's tariff war, a senior Russian diplomat said that US pressure on India to buy Russian crude oil is "unfair". "We are confident that India-Russia energy cooperation will continue despite external pressure," said Roman Babushkin, deputy head of the Russian mission. He said in a media briefing that this is a "challenging" situation for India and we are "confident" in our relations with New Delhi.
In the context of Western punitive measures against Russia, Babuskin said that the sanctions are hitting those who are imposing them. In response to a question, he said that the role of BRICS will increase as a stabilizing force amid the current global turmoil. He also said that the US has used the economy as a weapon, but Trump should keep in mind that friends never impose sanctions. Especially Russia will never impose such sanctions. Babuskin said that India and Russia have always remained allies even in difficult times. We will continue to supply crude oil to India and have also prepared a mechanism for this. Roman Babushkin, Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Embassy in India, said, "If Western countries criticise you, it means you are doing everything right... We don't expect this (India to stop buying oil from India).
We are aware of the challenging circumstances for India. This is the true strategic partnership we enjoy. No matter what happens, even during challenges, we are committed to overcome any problems." He further said, "President Putin's recent phone call to Prime Minister Modi to share information and explain the recent developments in Ukraine means that India means a lot to Russia. We are able to find any solution to mutual satisfaction. Deepening of our partnership will help us move forward together."
