New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, strongly criticised Pakistan during a discussion at the United Nations Security Council on the topic of "resolution of disputes through multilateralism and peaceful means."

In a powerful statement, Harish said, “On one side is India, a mature democracy, emerging economy and inclusive society. On the other side is Pakistan, which is steeped in radicalism and terrorism and is a country that repeatedly borrows from the IMF.”

Calling out Pakistan’s double standards, he added, “It is shameful that a member country of the Security Council preaches to others while itself is involved in wrong activities which are not acceptable to the international community.”

Referring to the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 tourists lost their lives, Harish said that countries promoting cross-border terrorism and violating good neighbourly principles will have to pay a heavy price. He revealed that in response to the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, a focused and controlled military operation targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

According to Harish, the operation was halted only after its main objectives were achieved, and that too at Pakistan’s request.

Emphasising India’s stance, he said, “Talk of international peace and security is meaningless unless there is zero tolerance for terrorism.” He also reaffirmed India’s commitment to multilateralism and peaceful resolutions but made it clear that terrorism cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

This is not the first time India has taken a tough stand. Earlier in May, Ambassador Harish had strongly responded to Pakistan in another UNSC discussion on the protection of civilians, humanitarian workers, journalists and UN personnel.
