Indian-origin man in US kills wife, 3 family members; children hide in cupboard
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): A heartbreaking news has emerged from the US state of Georgia, where domestic discord destroyed a happy family. Here, a 51-year-old Indian-origin man, Vijay Kumar, brutally shot and killed his own wife and three other relatives. After committing this brutal murder, the accused was trying to escape from the scene, but due to the promptness of the police, he has been arrested. The police have taken possession of all four bodies and started investigation and have described it as a serious case of domestic violence.
The sound of gunfire echoed at 2:30 a.m. Friday
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning, when police received reports of gunfire in the Brook Ivy Court area. Police arrived at the scene, stunned by the scene inside the house. The bodies of four people, riddled with bullets, lay there. The deceased have been identified as the accused's wife, Meemu Dogra (43), Gaurav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38). Police investigations revealed that Vijay and his wife had initially argued at their Atlanta home. They then went to a relative's home with their child, where the dispute escalated to a violent outcome, leading the accused to kill four people.
The intelligence of a 12-year-old boy helped the police arrive
Amidst this horrific scene, three children present in the house barely escaped with their lives. Police officials reported that as soon as the shooting began, the three children hid in a cupboard in fear. Among them was the 12-year-old son of the accused, Vijay Kumar, who displayed remarkable courage and presence of mind. He called 911 from inside the cupboard and informed the police of the incident. This call enabled the police to reach the scene within minutes. Fortunately, the children were not physically injured and were safely released to other family members.
The accused was arrested from the forest, the Indian Embassy expressed grief
After committing the crime, the accused, Vijay Kumar, fled the scene on foot, while his vehicle was found parked in the driveway outside the house. Police responded immediately, using K-9 units (sniffer dogs) to conduct a search operation in the surrounding area and apprehended the accused in a nearby wooded area. The Indian Embassy in Atlanta expressed deep condolences over this tragic incident. The Indian Mission issued a statement on social media, stating that it was deeply saddened by this family tragedy and was providing all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
