Indian-origin woman Himanshi murdered in Canada, first-degree murder charge, warrant issued against accused

Toronto (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking case of murder has emerged from Toronto, Canada, where a 30-year-old Indian-origin woman, Himanshi Khurana, was killed. Toronto Police have identified 32-year-old Abdul Ghafoori, a Toronto resident, as the prime suspect and have issued a nationwide arrest warrant against him on charges of first-degree murder. According to police, the victim and the accused were known to each other.
Body found after missing report
As per Toronto Police, a missing person report was received on Friday night, 19 December 2025, at around 10:41 pm, from the area of Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West. During the investigation, police recovered the woman’s body inside a residence on Saturday morning, 20 December 2025, around 6:30 am, after which the case was officially declared a homicide.
First-degree murder charge, suspicion of intimate partner violence
Police have confirmed that a warrant has been issued against Abdul Ghafoori under first-degree murder charges. Some media reports have described the case as a possible instance of intimate partner violence, though the investigation is still ongoing. If the court determines that the murder was pre-planned and carried out with intent, the accused could face life imprisonment without parole. Police teams are actively working to trace and arrest the suspect.

The Consulate General of India in Toronto has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and stated that it is in close contact with Canadian authorities. The consulate has assured full assistance to the victim’s family. Police have urged the public to immediately share any information related to the suspect with the concerned agencies.
