“Innocent women and children were killed in Afghanistan”: India slams Pakistan again at UNSC meeting

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India strongly criticised Pakistan on Wednesday over the situation in Afghanistan. During a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session in New York, India’s Permanent Representative Harish Parvathaneni condemned Pakistan’s recent airstrikes inside Afghanistan. Referring to the concerns raised by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), he said that attacks targeting women, children and civilians are unacceptable. He added that terrorism is being encouraged under the guise of trade and transit, and ordinary Afghans are suffering because of it.
India warned Pakistan that such attacks violate WTO rules and the UN Charter. Parvathaneni reaffirmed India’s full support for Afghanistan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence.
This statement comes at a time when tensions along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border have increased in recent years. Since the Taliban takeover in 2021, relations between the two countries have become even more complicated. Afghanistan has denied Pakistan’s allegations and stated that it cannot be held responsible for Pakistan’s internal security.
Parvathaneni said that India has consistently supported peace and stability in Afghanistan. Emphasising the need for regional and international cooperation, he said that all relevant stakeholders must work together to ensure development, peace and security in the country.
