Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Fresh controversy has erupted in the United States after the release of documents linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) made public nearly 30,000 additional pages related to the Epstein case. Among these documents was a purported letter/card that mentioned former President Donald Trump in an objectionable context. However, within hours, the DOJ clarified that the document was fabricated.

According to the DOJ, an FBI examination found several “serious irregularities” in the alleged letter. The handwriting did not match Epstein’s, the envelope lacked the required inmate number, the return address was incorrect, and most notably, the letter carried a postmark dated three days after Epstein’s death.

“Release does not mean truth”

The Justice Department stated that while the law may require the public release of documents, their disclosure does not automatically confirm the accuracy of the claims they contain. The DOJ cautioned the public against drawing conclusions from unverified material, calling such assumptions misleading and potentially harmful.

What did the alleged letter claim?

The document was dated August 13, 2019, when Epstein was reportedly in jail, and was allegedly addressed to Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics doctor serving a life sentence for sexually abusing hundreds of girls. The letter claimed that Donald Trump shared a similar “interest in young girls.” It contained vulgar and disturbing language suggesting shared behavior and attitudes.

Jeffrey Epstein faced serious accusations of sexually abusing minor girls and died in a New York jail in 2019. Larry Nassar was convicted in 2017 on multiple counts, including possession of child sexual abuse material and sexual assault under the guise of medical treatment.
