New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has agreed to the highest level of inspections of its nuclear programme under a proposed agreement between the two countries. He said the move would ensure strict monitoring of Tehran’s nuclear activities and prevent the development of nuclear weapons.

Trump stated that in view of Iran’s commitments, the Strait of Hormuz would remain open and no naval blockade would be imposed for now. However, he said US ships would remain prepared to restore restrictions if circumstances change.

He further said that any sanctions relief and release of frozen Iranian funds would be strictly monitored through a US-controlled escrow mechanism. According to Trump, the funds would be used only for humanitarian needs such as food and medicines including agricultural products supplied from the United States.
