India on high alert: States receive special instructions amid US-Iran tensions
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In light of the ongoing war-like situation in the Middle East, the central government has taken precautionary measures to maintain law and order across the country. The Home Ministry has written to all states and union territories, instructing them to exercise special vigilance regarding potential demonstrations in support of or against Iran.
The Home Ministry's letter stated that international developments could have an impact on various parts of the country. Therefore, if demonstrations are held in any state or union territory, either in favor of or against Iran, local administrations should closely monitor the situation. The Ministry clarified that maintaining law and order should be the top priority.
The letter also cautions that some anti-social elements or organized groups may attempt to disrupt the atmosphere under the guise of protests. To thwart any such planned plots, instructions have been given to keep the intelligence system active and to exercise extra vigilance in sensitive areas.
The Home Ministry has also directed states to monitor inflammatory or misleading messages on social media to prevent attempts to incite tension through rumors. District administrations and police officials have been instructed to take precautionary measures as needed.
The Central Government reiterated that any illegal activity, violence, or attempt to damage public property will be dealt with firmly. It emphasized the need to maintain peace and harmony in coordination with the States and Union Territories.
It should be noted that Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, was killed in a joint attack by the US and Israel. Following this, protests erupted in many parts of India. State governments are imposing strict restrictions to curb this. People are rallying behind Ayatollah Khamenei and protesting against Israel and the US, which is impacting law and order in the states.
Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, protests were reported from several areas of the valley. Mobile internet services and schools were shut down in Srinagar.
