Riyadh/Tehran (The Uttam Hindu): The ongoing conflict in West Asia is becoming increasingly intense with each passing day. Continuous attacks and counterattacks between Iran, the United States and Israel have escalated tensions across the region. Amid missile and drone strikes, the conflict has now entered its 15th day, with the situation remaining extremely serious. In the latest development, reports from Saudi Arabia indicate that Iran targeted a US airbase in the country, damaging several American Air Force aircraft.

According to reports, Iran launched an attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia and carried out bombardment in the area. During the attack, five US Air Force aerial refueling aircraft stationed at the base were reportedly damaged. However, sources say the aircraft were not completely destroyed and have been sent for repairs. No casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident.

Earlier, a US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft had crashed in western Iraq, killing all six crew members on board. In another incident on March 1, three US Air Force F-15 Eagle fighter jets crashed in Kuwait in what was described as a friendly-fire incident. However, all aircrew members on those aircraft survived. Reports said a Kuwaiti F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet mistakenly targeted the F-15 aircraft.

Notably, West Asia has been on the brink of a major conflict for the past 15 days. The escalation began on February 28 after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Reports at the time claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in those attacks. Since then, Iran has intensified retaliatory strikes against Israel and US military bases in Gulf countries. The conflict has pushed tensions across the Middle East to a peak and its impact is being felt globally.
