Tehran/Muscat (The Uttam Hindu) – The ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East show no signs of easing. Just ahead of proposed talks mediated by Oman, Iran has taken a step that could increase Washington's concerns. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has deployed its advanced ballistic missile, the Khorramshahr-4, at a military base.

According to Iran's state broadcaster Press TV, the missile was displayed during the inauguration of a new military base belonging to the IRGC Aerospace Force, in what is seen as a sign of its becoming a key part of Iran's defense strategy.

Brigadier General Yadollah Javani, the IRGC's deputy commander for political affairs, said the missile deployment was meant to send a clear message to the US that Iran would not back down from its defense capabilities at any cost. In an interview with Al-Mayadeen, he said Iran does not seek war, but any enemy making a mistake would receive a befitting response.

According to reports, the Khorramshahr-4 missile has a range of approximately 2,000

kilometers and is capable of carrying a warhead weighing up to 1,500 kilograms. Military experts believe the deployment of this missile could further escalate the regional security situation.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commander Javani claimed that the Iranian delegation would confidently participate in the talks with the US in Oman. According to reports, US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have arrived in Muscat, the capital of Oman, to discuss the nuclear issue .

It is worth noting that talks between the US and Iran broke down last June when Israel attacked Tehran. Following this, the US also targeted Iran's nuclear facilities in the ensuing 12-day conflict between the two countries. The Israeli strikes also damaged Iran's air defense system and ballistic missile infrastructure.
