Tehran/Washington (The Uttam Hindu) – Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard has warned the United States as a fleet of American warships moves toward West Asia. Senior Revolutionary Guard commander General Mohammad Pakpour said Iran's security forces are on full alert and that the Americans should not be under any "misconceptions." He also said they are simply awaiting orders from higher command to take action.

Protests began in Iran on December 28, prompting the deployment of the Revolutionary Guard and other security forces. Reports indicate that several people were killed and thousands detained. The US administration has strongly condemned the violence against protesters and warned that such actions will not be tolerated.

The US recently dispatched a fleet of aircraft carriers, including the USS Abraham Lincoln, to West Asia. Experts say this is aimed at deterring Iran from potential military action by increasing its military presence in the region. However, President Trump has stated that despite the deployment of warships, their purpose would be "better if they don't have to be used."

Humanitarian organizations and media reports put the deaths during the protests at least as many as 4,716 protesters, children, and civilians. The Human Rights Activists News Agency estimated the dead at 4,716 protesters, 203 government supporters, 43 children, and 40 other civilians, while more than 26,800 people were detained.

Analysts say the US military presence signals pressure on Iran, but President Trump is currently exercising restraint on any airstrikes or military action. The Soufan Center, a New York-based think tank, said the US administration has not yet taken any action due to regional pressure and strategic considerations, but the military option is always open.
