Iraq Slams U.S: Israeli Jets Invading Our Skies, You Must Intervene

Baghdad (The Uttam Hindu): Iraq has urged the US to fulfill its responsibility to prevent Israeli aircraft from entering Iraqi airspace and carrying out attacks. According to the agency, Sabah al-Numan, spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, said that the Iraqi government has called on the US to fulfill its obligations under bilateral agreements and international conventions to prevent such violations.
The statement said the Iraqi government reiterated its firm and categorical rejection of any violation of Iraqi airspace or its use for military strikes by Israel against Iran or any other neighbouring country. Iraq has shown maximum restraint in the hope of diplomatic and political solutions to resolve the crisis peacefully.
The spokesman stressed that under international law and the UN Charter, Iraq has the right to use all available means to respond to violations of its national sovereignty by any party. On Friday, Iraq submitted an official complaint to the UN Security Council, condemning Israel for violating its airspace to conduct military operations.
"Iraq has requested the US to play its role in preventing Israeli aircraft from violating Iraqi airspace in accordance with the Strategic Framework Agreement," the Iraqi news agency quoted a government source as saying. The source stressed respect for Iraq's sovereignty and the integrity of its airspace, saying that as the country leading the international coalition against ISIS, the US has a responsibility to prevent any violations that compromise Iraqi sovereignty or endanger its security.
Israel launched a series of attacks on Iranian territory in the wee hours of Friday, targeting nuclear and missile installations, killing senior military officials and scientists. The wave of attacks continues and has resulted in at least 78 people being killed and 320 others injured, according to figures announced earlier by Iran's UN envoy.
