Pakistan Assumes UNSC Presidency, Revives Kashmir Issue in "True Colors" Move

New York (The Uttam Hindu): As soon as it assumed the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the month of July, Pakistan has started using its old tactics against India. On the very first day of this responsibility, which it got as part of its two-year term as a non-permanent member, Pakistan has revealed its real intentions by raising the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and the newly appointed President of the Security Council, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, in a press conference, called for an immediate solution to the Kashmir dispute. He stressed that the time has come to implement the long-pending resolutions on Kashmir so that this dispute can be resolved.
Addressing the media in New York, Ahmed said, "Pakistan has assumed this presidency with full responsibility and conviction. Our approach is based on the principles of the UN Charter, peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for international law."
However, furthering his point, he directly targeted India and said, “The Security Council, and especially its permanent members, have an obligation to ensure the implementation of its resolutions. This is not Pakistan's burden alone. This issue cannot be ignored any longer as it has created serious tensions between India and Pakistan and has a profound impact on regional peace and human rights.”
This statement of Pakistan has come at a time when it is chairing the Council for its two-year term starting from January 2025. Analysts believe that Pakistan will try to use this one-month presidency to put diplomatic pressure on India by repeatedly raising the Kashmir issue on the international platform.
