Tehran (The Uttam Hindu) – Massive explosions rocked the southern and strategically important port city of Bandar Abbas, Iran. According to Iranian state media, the blast occurred in a multi-story residential building. Initial reports have confirmed the deaths of at least 14 people, including four children. Many others are injured, and the death toll is expected to rise.

According to government sources, the building targeted was serving as a guesthouse affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). However, the exact cause of the blast is not immediately clear.

According to Iranian media reports, images and reports of explosions have emerged from six cities, in addition to Bandar Abbas. Some of the explosions occurred in residential areas, while the Bandar Abbas port area suffered the most damage. Reports also claim that the cities where the explosions occurred include three where nuclear plants are located. Explosions have also been reported in Parand, Tabriz, and Ahvaz.

Two floors of an 8-story building collapsed

According to Iranian state television, an explosion occurred in an 8-story building located in the Moallem Boulevard area of Bandar Abbas, with the intensity of the explosion being so great that two floors of the building collapsed completely. Several vehicles parked nearby were damaged and nearby shops also suffered heavy damage. Locals reported that the sound of the explosion was heard several kilometers away, causing panic in the area.

Sources say the blast is suspected to have targeted the IRGC's naval commander. Meanwhile, Iran's military chief, Amir Hatami, issued a stern statement, saying that the country's security would not be compromised. He added that Iranian forces are fully prepared to respond to any potential threat.

The attack comes amid heightened military activity in the Gulf.

The blast comes at a time of heightened US military activity in the Gulf region, sparking speculation both regionally and internationally. However, Israel has clarified that it and the US have no involvement in the incident. Two Israeli officials told Reuters that they have no connection to the blasts in Iran.

Concerns rise in a sensitive region. Bandar Abbas is one of Iran's most important port cities and, due to its location near the Strait of Hormuz, holds immense strategic importance. Consequently, the explosions in this area have raised security concerns not only for Iran but for the entire West Asian region. The situation is currently reported to be under control, but suspense remains until the true cause of the explosions is revealed
