Paris (The Uttam Hindu): The Louvre Museum, one of the world's most famous museums located in the French capital, Paris, was temporarily closed on Sunday morning after a sensational theft. According to reports, thieves circumvented the museum's tight security system and stole priceless jewelry.

French Culture Minister Rashida Dati confirmed the incident. "A robbery occurred this morning at the Louvre Museum's opening time," she shared in a post on the social media platform X. She added that a thorough investigation has been launched into the high-profile theft.

According to initial reports, the thieves made a cunning burglary of precious jewels from the museum's famous gallery. The incident caused chaos within the museum. Video footage released showed long queues of visitors waiting to exit the museum, while other videos showed a large number of security personnel deployed outside the museum.

The robbers reportedly managed to escape with the jewelry, AFP news agency quoted an official as saying. Immediately following the incident, the Louvre Museum was closed for the entire day. The museum issued an official statement saying it would remain closed "due to special circumstances," but the statement did not provide any additional details about the robbery.

It's worth noting that this museum, officially known as the "Musée du Louvre," houses nearly half a million priceless works of art. These include some of history's greatest paintings, such as Leonardo da Vinci's world-famous "Mona Lisa," "The Wedding Feast at Cana," and "The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne."
