São Paulo (The Uttam Hindu) : A Delta Air Lines international flight was in chaos when an engine caught fire just minutes after takeoff. The flight, traveling from São Paulo to Atlanta, was carrying 272 passengers and 14 crew members. However, the pilot's presence of mind averted a major tragedy, and all passengers were safely rescued.
According to reports, the plane, an Airbus A330-300, took off from Guarulhos International Airport. Shortly after takeoff, a loud noise accompanied by sparks and flames began to emerge from the plane's left engine, causing panic among passengers.
Eyewitness accounts and viral videos clearly show sparks continuously coming from the engine. Air traffic control alerted the pilot to the engine fire, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency and return the plane. During this incident, debris fell from the engine, causing a small fire near the runway.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the pilot made a swift decision and landed the plane safely just nine minutes after takeoff. Immediately after landing, airport rescue and fire brigade teams arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control .
The airline said in a statement that the incident was caused by a technical fault in the left engine. The airline apologized for the inconvenience and said all passengers and crew were safely evacuated and transported to the terminal.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The airline and relevant agencies have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the engine failure .
