Tehran (The Uttam Hindu): Amid rising fears of a possible confrontation with the United States, Iran has carried out a major administrative reshuffle at the top level. According to a report by The New York Times, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has transferred significant national security powers to senior leader Ali Larijani.

The report, citing Iranian officials and sources linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, states that the move was taken in view of regional developments and increasing tensions with the United States and Israel. Larijani is now said to be playing a central role in coordinating security, military, and diplomatic strategies.

Sources indicate that along with this decision, a broad contingency plan has been prepared to ensure continuity in the leadership structure. The report also mentions that Iran has reviewed its military readiness, deployed missile systems at strategic locations, and instructed security forces to remain on high alert. There is speculation regarding the role of President Masoud Pezeshkian, although no formal statement has been issued by the government.

According to the report, Iran has increased military activity near the Strait of Hormuz amid concerns of a potential US strike. Information has also emerged about the testing of the “Sayyad-3G” missile. Currently, Larijani serves as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and is actively involved in nuclear negotiations, coordination with regional allies, and internal security matters. While these claims have not been independently verified, tensions remain high in West Asia given the prevailing regional situation.
