Major Russian missile and drone attack: Destruction in Kyiv and several cities, one police officer killed

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and several other major cities using cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones. The strikes targeted Odesa port, energy facilities, and other key infrastructure sites.

In the attacks, a police officer was killed in Lviv, while 24 people were reported injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that, apart from Kyiv, the regions of Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Lviv, and Sumy were also targeted. The assault caused significant damage to residential buildings and railway properties.

Focus on attacks rather than talks

Zelenskyy accused Russia of prioritizing intensified attacks instead of ending the war through negotiations. According to him, Russia has launched 1,300 drones, 1,400 guided bombs, and 96 missiles against Ukraine this week alone. In the latest strike, 33 missiles and 274 drones were reportedly fired.

Conflict continues into fourth year

Efforts by the United States to bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, which has been ongoing for four years, have yet to produce a breakthrough. Disagreements over territorial control remain a major obstacle to a ceasefire. Earlier on Saturday, Ukraine reportedly carried out a drone strike nearly 1,400 kilometers inside Russian territory, damaging a missile factory and injuring 11 people.
