Peshawar (The Uttam Hindu): Pakistan's troubled northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was rocked by a major terrorist attack in the early hours of Saturday. At least 12 soldiers were killed and four others were seriously injured when Pakistani Taliban (TTP) terrorists ambushed an army convoy in South Waziristan district here.

Local administration and security officials confirmed the attack to news agency AFP and said that the incident took place at around 4 am when the army convoy was passing through the area. A local government official said, "The terrorists fired indiscriminately with heavy weapons on the convoy. 12 security personnel were killed in the firing from both sides." It is being told that the attackers were so fearless that they also looted the weapons and ammunition of the killed soldiers and fled from the spot.

The terrorist organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. This is one of the deadliest attacks on security forces in recent months. It is worth noting that TTP was driven out of these areas after a major operation by the Pakistani army in 2014 but since the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan in 2021, TTP has once again become very active in these border areas and is constantly targeting the Pakistani army.
