Horrific Accident: Freight Train Collides with Double-Decker Bus, Leaving 10 Dead and More Than 40 Injured
Atalacomulco (The Uttam Hindu): A major tragedy struck Mexico on Monday when a goods train collided with a double-decker bus, leaving 10 people dead and more than 40 injured. The accident occurred in an industrial zone of Atalacomulco, around 130 kilometers from Mexico City.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the bus was completely destroyed. The bus was traveling on the Herradura de Plata line, when it was hit by a speeding Canadian Pacific Kansas City of Mexico freight train, which continued moving without stopping after the crash.
Rescue teams and police rushed to the scene, sending the injured to nearby hospitals. According to officials, 41 people were injured, with several in critical condition. Mexico’s Civil Defense Agency confirmed the incident on social media platform X, stating that senior authorities were present at the site and an investigation was underway.
A viral video on social media shows heavy traffic near the railway crossing. The bus was slowly crossing when the speeding train rammed into it, triggering chaos in the area. While the bus company has refused to comment, the train operator confirmed the accident and expressed condolences to the victims.
Authorities are now investigating whether negligence at the railway crossing contributed to the disaster. The horrific crash has shocked both the administration and the local community.
