Paris(The Uttam Hindu): In a bizarre yet captivating tribute to the enduring legacy of Michael Jackson, one of his old, glittery socks, worn briefly during a concert 28 years ago, has fetched a whopping $8,000 at a Paris auction. The bidding, which began at $3,400, far exceeded expectations as fans battled to own a piece of the King of Pop's history.

The sock—reportedly worn by Jackson during his 1996 concert in Kuala Lumpur and again in 1997 at a music festival in Nîmes, France—was found by a backstage technician and preserved for decades before being put up for auction. The sock, though stained and aged, carried immense sentimental and collector value, pushing bids far beyond the estimated $4,500 cap.

Auction organizer Aurore Elee confirmed the item’s authenticity and explained how Jackson’s eccentricity and global fan base have kept such memorabilia in extremely high demand.

Michael Jackson, who passed away on June 25, 2009, remains one of the world’s most influential entertainers. Known for his 39 Guinness World Records, otherworldly performances, and unconventional lifestyle—including sleeping in an oxygen chamber to prolong life—Jackson’s fan devotion often borders on mythic. Following his death, reports claimed 13 fans died by suicide in grief, while countless others fainted or mourned worldwide.

Despite his passing, Jackson’s brand continues to earn massively, with estimates showing over ₹17,000 crore ($2 billion+) in posthumous revenue through music sales, merchandise, and licensing deals.
