Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): Violence against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh continues unabated. In another disturbing incident, an extremist attack has once again targeted a Hindu family. The latest case has been reported from Bahor village under the Nandirgaon union in the Gowainghat police station area of Sylhet district, where Islamic extremists allegedly attacked and set fire to a Hindu family’s house.

According to available information, the attackers targeted the house of Birendra Kumar De and set it on fire. The flames spread rapidly, engulfing the entire house within a short time. A video of the incident has surfaced, showing family members desperately trying to escape to save their lives. The house was completely reduced to ashes in the fire.

The Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM) has expressed serious concern over the rising violence against minority communities in the country. The organization claims that more than 100 minority deaths have been documented over the past seven months.

HRCBM alleges that these are not isolated incidents but part of a systematic, nationwide pattern of targeting minorities. According to its report, between June 6, 2025, and January 5, 2026, at least 116 minorities were killed across all eight divisions and a minimum of 45 districts in Bangladesh. These deaths include cases of lynching, planned killings, and deaths under suspicious circumstances.

UK MP Priti Patel raises concern

Earlier, UK Member of Parliament and Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Priti Patel, had also voiced concern over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. She urged the British government to use its diplomatic influence to ensure stability in the country, protect religious freedom, and help the Hindu community feel safe.
