Missing in US: 22-year-old Indian student Saketh Srinivasaiah sought after 4 days, consulate on alert

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The news of the disappearance of Saketh Srinivasaiah, a 22-year-old Indian student from Karnataka studying in the US, has come to light. Saketh was pursuing post-graduation from the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley). The Indian Consulate General in San Francisco has expressed deep concern over the student's sudden disappearance. In a statement issued on the social media platform X, the Consulate said that the news of the disappearance of Saketh Srinivasaiah, an Indian post-graduate student from Karnataka at UC Berkeley, is a matter of grave concern. The Consulate is in touch with the family and is continuously coordinating with the local administration to trace the student.
Questions have been raised in the past about the safety of Indian students living abroad. In several cases, students have complained of discrimination, racial attacks, and administrative negligence. In this regard, the issue of safety of Indian students abroad was raised in the Lok Sabha by Asaduddin Owaisi. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the government gives top priority to the safety of Indian students living abroad. The Ministry clarified that any incidents of violence or abuse are immediately raised with the authorities of the concerned country to ensure a fair investigation and action against the culprits.
Roommate sought help on social media
Saket's roommate, Baneet Singh, shared information about his disappearance through the social media platform LinkedIn. He said that Saket has been missing since Monday, February 9th. He was last seen near Lake Anza in Berkeley Hills. In the post, Baneet Singh appealed that if anyone has seen Saket in that area recently, they should immediately share information. He said that they are continuously working with the police department, but this is a very difficult time for them. Currently, the local police and the Indian Consulate are engaged in searching for the student. Family and friends are hoping for his safe return.
