Kathmandu (The Uttam Hindu): Nepal witnessed unprecedented political unrest on Monday as Gen-Z–led protests against corruption and the social media ban turned violent, leaving 19 people dead and dozens injured. The situation escalated when demonstrators stormed the Parliament building in Kathmandu, raising slogans and vandalizing property.

As chaos unfolded inside the Parliament complex, security forces opened fire to disperse the crowd. Political observers described this assault on Nepal’s Parliament as “unprecedented,” though such incidents have been witnessed in several countries in recent years.

United States (2021): Following Donald Trump’s election loss, his supporters stormed Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., attempting to overturn the results. The violence left multiple people dead, and Trump’s social media accounts were later suspended.

Brazil (2023): Supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro staged a similar assault on the Parliament in Brasília, alleging election fraud. Thousands occupied the building for hours before being evicted by security forces.

Sri Lanka (2022): Economic collapse and rising discontent led to massive protests, with angry citizens storming Parliament and the Prime Minister’s residence. Protesters looted government property before eventually being cleared out.

Iraq (2022): In Baghdad, supporters of Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr occupied Parliament for days, protesting against the nomination of a Prime Minister.

Bangladesh (2024): Student-led protests forced Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee the country. Widespread violence followed, particularly targeting Hindus, while Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus took charge of an interim government.

Similar uprisings have also been reported in Hong Kong and Georgia, where citizens stormed Parliament buildings in defiance of government actions.
