North Korea Fires Dozens of Ballistic Missiles Into East Sea, South Korea on High Alert
North Korea has fired dozens of ballistic missiles into the East Sea, prompting South Korea to remain on high alert amid rising regional tensions.

Seoul (The Uttam Hindu): North Korea fired nearly a dozen ballistic missiles towards the East Sea on Thursday, prompting South Korea’s military to heighten surveillance and remain on alert for further launches. According to the South Korean military, the short-range missiles were launched from the Wonsan area of North Korea.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the launches took place at around 12:30 p.m. local time. The missiles’ technical characteristics and capabilities are being examined. The military added that it is sharing information about the incident with the United States and Japan to strengthen regional defence coordination. The latest launches come less than two weeks after North Korea conducted a missile test on October 12, when Pyongyang claimed to have tested tactical ballistic missiles to improve a key component of its weapons system.
North Korea also claimed to have tested its new artificial intelligence-powered underwater torpedo system, named Jaam-2.0 (ZM-2.0), on October 17, 2026. State news agency KCNA reported the following day that the system uses AI to identify and accurately strike targets. Pyongyang said the test validated key technologies related to propulsion efficiency and rocket propulsion performance. North Korea further claimed that more than 180 tests of the system had been conducted over the past five years. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
