North Korea vows to build the world’s most powerful army through nuclear might

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is building the world's most powerful military and stockpiling nuclear weapons. Kim Jong Un is considered a tyrant and a ruthless leader.
North Korea came into existence after World War II. Following Japan's surrender in World War II, Korea was divided in 1948. This division resulted in the creation of the Soviet Union (North) and the United States (South). On September 9, 1948, Kim Il-sung, with Soviet support, established the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), with Pyongyang as its capital.
The United States occupied South Korea, and the Soviet Union occupied North Korea. The two sides failed to agree on a unified government, leading to the establishment of South Korea on August 15, 1948, and North Korea on September 9, 1948.
Soon, war broke out between North Korea and South Korea in 1950, ending in 1953. North Korea invaded South Korea in an attempt to unify the entire peninsula under communist rule, leading to the Korean War. Although a ceasefire was reached between the two countries in 1953, no treaty was signed.
Since North Korea's founding, the Kim family has ruled the country. Kim Jong-il died of a heart attack in 2012, paving the way for Kim Jong-un's rule. Since then, Kim Jong-un has remained the ruler of North Korea.
In today's scenario, North Korea possesses powerful weapons and the potential to field a military of 1 million soldiers. The power of North Korea's nuclear weapons is known to the entire world. North Korea's strength can be gauged by the fact that it has the fourth largest army in the world.
North Korea is also continuously developing nuclear weapons. Ordinary people in North Korea are forced to live in poverty, but Kim's government is spending billions of rupees to develop nuclear weapons.
Kim Jong Il's government has faced numerous accusations, but he remains unresponsive. However, one development is progressing at a parallel pace: nuclear weapons development. In 2005, North Korea announced its nuclear weapons presence, and in 2006, it shocked the world with its nuclear test. Then, in 2009, it conducted a second nuclear test.
On December 17, 2011, the world learned of Kim Jong Il's death. Kim Jong Un then followed in his father's footsteps and expanded North Korea's nuclear weapons program.
