Albany (The Uttam Hindu): A major road accident occurred in New York on Friday. A tourist bus going from Niagara Falls to New York City overturned at around 12:30 pm, killing 5 people and injuring many others. Major Andre Ray of New York State Police informed that the bus driver lost control, causing the accident. A total of 54 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident.


Police spokesman Trooper James O'Callaghan said most of the passengers were not wearing seat belts. At the time of the collision, several windows of the bus broke and passengers were thrown out. He also said that there were children on the bus and most of the passengers were of Indian, Chinese and Filipino origin.

By 2:10 pm, at least eight injured were hospitalized. Police said the bus suffered serious damage. New York Governor Kathy Hochul described the incident as tragic on social media platform X and said that her office is in touch with the local administration and police and is monitoring the relief operations.


An eyewitness Powell Stephens said that broken windows, passengers' luggage and debris were scattered on the road at the accident site. After the accident, that road has been closed and drivers have been advised to take an alternate route. Rescue operations are still underway.
