“Only the United States can mediate,” claims US Secretary of State on Russia-Ukraine war

Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Washington (The Uttam Hindu): US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the United States is the only country capable of engaging with both Russia and Ukraine to explore a peaceful end to the ongoing war. He said that on Earth, there is only one nation and one institution that can realistically talk to both sides and determine whether a peaceful resolution is possible, and that country is the United States. Rubio added that Washington has invested significant time and high-level diplomatic efforts in this process.
Rubio emphasized that former President Donald Trump held more meetings on the Ukraine conflict than on any other issue, including trade. He clarified that the US does not intend to impose any deal on either side. According to him, the focus is on understanding what both Russia and Ukraine expect, what they need, and what they are willing to offer in return.
He further said that there is no indication of surrender from either side in the near future, making dialogue the only realistic path toward ending the war. Rubio stressed that any agreement would require both parties to come together, and the final decisions would rest solely with Ukraine and Russia, not with the United States.
Rubio also noted that such diplomatic efforts demand time and patience and cannot be conducted through media statements or press conferences. The Russia-Ukraine war began in February 2022 when Russia launched its invasion, marking Europe’s largest conflict since World War II.
Since then, Ukraine has received extensive military, financial, and diplomatic support from Western nations, while Russia has strengthened ties with countries opposing US-led sanctions. The conflict has reshaped global energy markets, European security structures, and international alliances, with Washington portraying the war as a critical test of global rules and order.
