Pakistan fails to halt Middle East tensions, Russia steps in with new peace push
Pakistan’s failed efforts raise concerns as attention turns to putin and a possible wider escalation.

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States in West Asia, diplomatic efforts to restore peace have intensified. Pakistan’s attempt to act as a mediator has failed to make progress, while Russia has stepped in to take the lead.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is actively working on a possible peace deal. His spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia is making all efforts to stabilize the region. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has indicated that the conflict could continue for the next two to three weeks. Iran has also ruled out immediate talks suggesting no quick resolution.
Pakistan’s mediation efforts weakened due to a lack of effective communication between the US and Iran. Tehran has made it clear that it will not engage in talks without assurances against possible American attacks. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the trust deficit remains the biggest challenge.
Russia is now preparing a draft peace plan and seeking global support. Putin has held discussions with Egypt’s foreign minister and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Russia has also signaled its willingness to help stabilize global trade and supply chains affected by the conflict.
Earlier, Russian intelligence chief Sergei Naryshkin said his team is in contact with US intelligence agencies, raising hopes for renewed diplomatic engagement.
