New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking revelation from U.S. intelligence agencies claims that Pakistan is secretly developing a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of reaching the United States. The report, published in the renowned American journal Foreign Affairs, raises concerns amid growing evidence of China assisting Pakistan in modernizing its nuclear arsenal—especially after India’s recent Operation Sindoor.

According to U.S. officials, if Pakistan successfully develops such a missile, Washington may officially designate it as a "nuclear enemy state", a title currently reserved for Russia, China, and North Korea. The report adds, “Any nation capable of targeting the U.S. with an ICBM cannot be considered an ally.”

Pakistan has publicly maintained that its nuclear program is solely aimed at countering India, focusing only on short and medium-range missiles. However, this secretive development of long-range nuclear missiles has alarmed American agencies. Analysts believe it may be a strategic move to deter the U.S. from supporting India or dismantling Pakistan’s nuclear weapons.

Currently, Pakistan possesses an estimated 170 nuclear warheads. ICBMs, capable of carrying nuclear or conventional warheads, can strike targets over 5,500 km away. While Pakistan lacks an ICBM at present, it previously tested the Shaheen-III, a medium-range missile capable of hitting targets over 2,700 km—including major Indian cities.
