Pakistani Army Camp Attack: 7 Soldiers Killed in Bomb-Laden Vehicle Blast

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Friday's suicide attack in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, has exposed the country's security system. Seven Pakistani Army soldiers were killed in the terrorist attack in the Mir Ali area, which borders Afghanistan and has long been a hotbed of terrorist activity.
Explosives-laden vehicle blows up military camp
According to reports, a suicide bomber belonging to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) targeted an army camp with an explosives-laden vehicle. The attacker tried to drive the vehicle into the camp, but it hit a wall, causing a massive explosion. The explosion was so powerful that tremors were felt in the surrounding areas. Videos started going viral on social media shortly after the attack, in which a cloud of smoke rising from the Pakistani army camp is clearly visible. The army has cordoned off the entire area and a search operation has been launched.
Tension on the Afghan border, panic in Pakistan
This attack comes at a time when tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan are at their peak. In recent weeks, incidents of firing and drone attacks have increased along the borders between the two countries. According to Pakistani media, several dozen Pakistani soldiers have been killed in Afghan attacks. Pakistan, meanwhile, claims that it has also targeted terrorist hideouts in cities like Kabul and Kandahar.
Tensions persist despite ceasefire
Although a ceasefire has been in effect between the two countries since Wednesday evening, the situation has not returned to normal. Afghanistan has said it has given a "befitting response" to Pakistan's actions, but has accepted the ceasefire after mediation by Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
