Peace Talks vs Reality: Russia's Drone Attack on Kiev Shakes Ukraine

Kiev (The Uttam Hindu): Ignoring the ongoing international efforts for peace and ceasefire, Russia has once again launched a series of attacks on Ukraine's capital Kiev. Ukrainian officials informed on Sunday that Russia targeted Kiev with hundreds of drones, killing at least two people including an innocent one-year-old child and injuring 11 others. These attacks have dealt a severe blow to the hopes of peace.
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev city administration, said that rescue and relief operations were carried out after the Russian attacks. Meanwhile, the body of a one-year-old child was recovered from the rubble of a building, causing mourning in the area. According to Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the debris of the Russian drone fell on residential buildings in the city's Sviatoshinsky and Darnitsky districts. A government building is also reported to have caught fire in these attacks.
These attacks have come at a time when many diplomatic efforts are underway to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. However, these efforts have not yielded any concrete success so far, as both Russia and Ukraine are adamant on their respective terms.
Just a day earlier, Ukrainian President Zelensky, referring to the magnitude of the attacks, had said that in the first six days of September, Russia had fired more than 1300 drones, 900 guided aerial bombs and more than 50 missiles on Ukraine. These latest attacks make it clear that the war is getting more intense instead of stopping.
