PM Modi Endorses Trump’s Gaza Ceasefire Plan, Calls it Key for Lasting Peace

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for a ceasefire in Gaza, expressing hope that all parties will support the initiative to end the ongoing conflict.
PM Modi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to state:
"We welcome U.S. President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It offers a viable pathway for long-term and lasting peace, security, and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as well as the broader West Asian region. We hope all concerned parties will unite in support of this initiative to end the conflict and ensure peace."
The plan, designed by President Trump, has already received support from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several Muslim countries. U.S. mediators have presented the proposal to Hamas via Egypt and Qatar. Hamas has responded cautiously, stating it will carefully consider the proposal before giving any reaction.
Prior to this, Trump met with Arab and Muslim nations separately from the UNGA meetings to discuss the Gaza ceasefire plan. Following these discussions, he briefed Netanyahu on the details. Netanyahu expressed his full support for the plan and also met Trump in Washington D.C. on the night of September 29.
The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on Israel. Netanyahu vowed to eliminate the threat, and the war has continued for nearly two years. With the second anniversary of the attacks approaching, the Israeli Prime Minister has publicly indicated willingness to consider a ceasefire under Trump’s proposal.
PM Modi’s endorsement underscores India’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at ending hostilities and achieving sustainable peace in the region.
