Putin’s Delhi Visit Breaks a Long Pattern: Why Rajghat Traffic Didn’t Come to a Standstill This Time

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): VIP visits to Rajghat have long been synonymous with traffic chaos in Delhi. Road closures around ITO and nearby corridors often bring daily life to a halt. However, during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent visit, commuters witnessed something unexpected — traffic disruptions were brief and manageable.
Unlike earlier visits, congestion cleared within minutes. Traffic officials credit this change to advance advisories shared online, early deployment of traffic personnel, and better coordination at key junctions. Commuters were informed ahead of time, allowing them to avoid sensitive routes.
Typically, such visits lead to 15–40 minute delays across central and east Delhi due to security protocols. This time, sustained on-ground monitoring helped prevent long tailbacks even after the convoy passed.
Experts say the episode proves that strong planning and timely public communication can reduce inconvenience during high-security movements. For many Delhiites, it offered a rare glimpse of how VIP travel can be managed without paralysing the city.
