Trump Admin Jolted: US Court Orders Release of Palestinian Activist Khalil

NEW YORK (The Uttam Hindu): A US judge on Friday ordered the release from immigration detention of Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil, who along with other protesters had demonstrated against Israel's crackdown on Gaza.

Khalil was arrested by immigration agents in Manhattan. President Donald Trump has described these protests as anti-Semitic and has vowed to deport foreign students who participate in them. Court setback to Trump's effort to stop admission of foreign students in Harvard

A federal judge has temporarily halted the Trump administration's efforts to block international students from entering Harvard University. US District Judge Alison Burroughs' order preserves Harvard's power to admit foreign students until the case is decided.

It's another win for the Ivy League school as it continues to challenge a number of government restrictions in a battle with the White House.
