New Jersey (Uttam Hindu News): 51-year-old Indian-origin doctor Ritesh Kalra has been charged with serious charges of fraud and sexual exploitation of patients in New Jersey, USA. According to prosecutors, Dr. Kalra was running his Fair Lawn clinic as a 'pill mill' (illegal pharmacy), where he demanded sexual relations from patients in exchange for powerful and addictive drugs like oxycodone.

According to reports, Dr Kalra has been charged with a total of five counts, including three counts of illegal drug distribution and two counts of health care fraud. He has been placed under house arrest after appearing in federal court.

Prosecutors claim that Dr. Kalra abused his medical license and exploited patients between January 2019 and February 2025. During this period, he issued more than 31,000 prescriptions for oxycodone. Several female patients have alleged that Kalra pressured them to have sex in exchange for giving these drugs. One woman has even claimed to have faced sexual harassment several times at the clinic.

Attorney Alina Habba said, "Dr. Kalra not only broke the law but also endangered the lives of patients. He also defrauded New Jersey's public health program."

Following the allegations, Dr. Kalra's medical license has been revoked and his clinic has been ordered to close. He is also accused of defrauding the New Jersey Medicaid program, as he billed for consultations that never took place. If convicted, Dr. Kalra could face up to 20 years in prison for illegal drug distribution and 10 years for health care fraud. In addition, he could also be fined a whopping $1 million.
