Washington/Kiev (The Uttam Hindu): On one hand, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reached America with the hope of peace, on the other hand, Russia has continued its deadly attacks on Ukraine. On Monday, Russia targeted a five-story residential building in Ukraine's second largest city Kharkiv with a drone, killing at least five people, including a one-and-a-half-year-old girl, and injuring dozens.

According to the local governor, the Russian army attacked the building with four drones one after the other. Due to this barbaric attack, a large part of the building collapsed and a huge fire broke out. In the video released by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, rescue workers are seen removing people from the rubble and extinguishing the fire. More than 18 people are reported to be injured in this attack, including many children. Apart from this, 11 people were injured in a ballistic missile attack on another city near the Russian border.

These attacks have taken place at a time when President Zelensky is on a US visit for peace talks. However, even before his arrival in the US, a statement by former President Donald Trump has created a new political stir. Trump has reportedly said that if peace is wanted, Ukraine will have to give up its claim on Crimea and also forget its insistence on joining NATO. After this rhetoric, there is a possibility of tension increasing between Zelensky and Trump.

According to reports, this time many other European leaders have also reached America along with Zelensky to reduce this tension and display a united front. It is worth noting that just a few days ago on Saturday, a meeting was held between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Although both the leaders did not give any concrete result of the meeting, but described it as 'meaningful'. Zelensky's peace mission remains a big challenge amidst these changing political circumstances.
