Moscow (The Uttam Hindu): Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday offered to mediate to reduce the ongoing tension between Iran and Israel. He said that Moscow can work on a deal that allows Iran to continue its nuclear program peacefully and also addresses Israel's security concerns.

Speaking to the media at an event, Putin expressed his opinion on this sensitive issue. He said, "This is a sensitive issue, but in my opinion, it can be resolved."

The Russian President also informed that he has sent his proposal to Iran, Israel and the United States. He clarified, "We are not imposing anything on anyone. We just want to talk about what can be done in this situation. Any final decision has to be taken by the leadership of these countries."

Russia has good relations with West Asian countries, which can make it an important and influential mediator in the matter of Iran and Israel. Last week, Putin also had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, in which he proposed to establish peace in West Asia. However, Trump advised him to first focus on a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Speaking at the International Economic Forum in St Petersburg, Putin said Russia has strong ties with Iran and that it was Russia that helped Iran set up its first nuclear power plant in Bushehr. Currently, about 200 Russian workers are helping Iran build two other nuclear plants in Bushehr.

During this, Putin praised US President Trump and supported his efforts to establish peace in Ukraine. Putin also admitted that if Trump had been in power in 2022, there might not have been a war between Russia and Ukraine. He said that Russia is ready to negotiate with Ukraine for a ceasefire, but he questioned the legitimacy of Ukrainian President Zelensky, whose term ended last year.
