Hanoi (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic accident took place on Saturday in Halong Bay, a famous tourist destination in northern Vietnam. A cruise ship full of tourists capsized after being hit by a sudden storm, killing 37 people so far. Many people are still reported missing, for whom rescue operations are underway.


According to the Vietnam News Agency, the accident occurred in Quang Ninh province at around 1:30 pm on Saturday. While the ship was in the bay, it faced a strong storm. According to officials, by 2:05 pm, contact with the ship was completely lost and within a short time it sank in deep water.


At the time of the accident, there were 48 passengers on board the cruise ship, including 24 men and 24 women. It is being told that there were many young people and children among them. According to local media, most of the passengers were Vietnamese families who had come from the capital Hanoi to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Halong Bay.


Despite the challenges of heavy rain and bad weather, rescue teams have so far rescued 11 people safely from the water. However, many people are still missing, for whom a massive rescue operation is being carried out. Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and ordered a full investigation of the accident
