Sushila Karki takes charge amid political crisis in Nepal, sends strong message to Gen Z

Kathmandu (The Uttam Hindu): Amid the ongoing political instability and violent protests in Nepal, Sushila Karki, the country's first female Chief Justice took over as interim Prime Minister on Sunday. In her first address after taking power, she gave a strong message to the youth (Gen-Z) and protesters and made it clear that the recent incidents of violence and vandalism will be investigated.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki addressed the nation and said, "Those involved in the vandalism will be investigated. My party and I have not come to taste power. We will not stay for more than six months and will hand over the responsibility after the new Parliament is elected." She also made it clear that the sole objective of her government is to protect the Constitution and democracy and for this she will need the support of the public.
This crisis in Nepal started when the ruling coalition government fell due to internal differences and serious allegations of corruption, after which the Parliament was dissolved. Opposition parties and a large number of youth took to the streets and started massive protests against this decision. These protests turned violent at many places and government properties were also damaged.
To control these uncontrollable situations and to run the country smoothly till the next general elections, Sushila Karki has been appointed as the interim Prime Minister on the recommendation of the Supreme Court and other constitutional bodies.
