US deploys 15 warships in the Strait of Hormuz after failed Iran talks, escalating tensions and raising concerns over global oil supply and maritime security.
Tehran (The Uttam Hindu): Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated sharply after peace talks in Islamabad collapsed. Following the end of the blockade deadline in the Strait of Hormuz, the US military has begun monitoring and intercepting Iranian vessels passing through the region.
Under orders from Donald Trump, the US Navy has deployed around 15 warships in the eastern part of the strait to enforce surveillance and restrictions.
US warns Iran over shipping disruption
US Vice President JD Vance accused Iran of engaging in “economic terrorism” by disrupting maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. In an interview, he warned that if such actions continue, the US will ensure that no Iranian ship is allowed to leave the region.
Trump also stated that despite the tensions, 34 ships passed through the strait in a single day under US monitoring—one of the highest figures in recent days. He described Iran’s attempts to disrupt the route as a “foolish move.”
Iran issues strong warning
Responding to the developments, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf cautioned that any blockade in the Strait of Hormuz would not only affect oil supplies but also have far-reaching consequences for global markets.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, and any escalation in the region is likely to impact global oil prices, shipping routes, and economic stability.
