US Declares Pakistan-Backed TRF a Global Terrorist Organization, Freezes Assets, Calls Pahalgam Attack Deadliest Since 26/11

New Delhi/Washington (The Uttam Hindu): The United States has officially designated The Resistance Front (TRF) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, a major move aimed at countering Pakistan-backed terrorism in India.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the decision, holding TRF responsible for the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley, where 26 tourists were brutally killed. This was the deadliest terror strike in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
TRF is widely known as another name for Lashkar-e-Taiba, operating as its proxy to carry out terror activities in Kashmir. LeT itself has already been designated as a terrorist outfit by the United Nations and the United States.
Announcing the ban, the US State Department said, “This designation is a step towards protecting national security, strengthening the global fight against terrorism, and ensuring justice for the victims.”
Under this designation, TRF’s bank accounts will be frozen, its members will be barred from entering the United States, and the group will face international monitoring.
The US also described the Pahalgam massacre as the deadliest attack on Indian civilians in recent years. After the attack, US President Donald Trump personally called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express condolences and assured full support in the fight against terrorism.
Responding firmly, PM Modi vowed that “India will punish the terrorists and those who shelter them.” In retaliation, on May 7, 2025, the Indian Army launched precision airstrikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, eliminating over 100 militants.
