Trump asserts US will acquire Greenland, citing Russia and China threats

WASHINGTON (The Uttam Hindu) : US President Donald Trump has said that the US will annex Greenland. He said that if the US does not do so, Russia or China could seize this strategic region.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, "If we don't take Greenland, Russia or China will, and I'm not going to let that happen." He said he would prefer a negotiated settlement, but believes Greenland is destined to come to the United States. Trump said he would love to make a deal because it's easier, but "we'll have Greenland either way."
When asked whether military action would be taken, he said that America's focus was solely on taking Greenland under its control. He clearly stated that the issue was not about leasing it or keeping it for a short period, but about becoming its full owner. Trump also said that this would not harm NATO. He claimed that he had played a major role in strengthening NATO and that its member countries were now spending up to five percent of their GDP. Commenting on Greenland's security system, Trump said that the security there was very weak. He said that there was almost no security there, while Russian and Chinese warships and submarines were present nearby.
He said that the mere presence of the US military was not enough. Trump said, "You need ownership. You need actual title, as they say in the real estate business." When asked if a formal offer had been made to Denmark for Greenland, Trump said that none had been made yet. However, he said that Greenland should be willing to agree to a deal. Greenland is an autonomous territory under Denmark. The area is considered strategically important due to its location in the Arctic, especially as it is near emerging shipping routes and military corridors.
The US already has a military presence there. Concerns about the region's security are growing due to the increasing activities of Russia and China in the Arctic region.
