Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he resolved recent tensions between India and Pakistan through trade. During a meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House on Wednesday, Trump stated, “If you look at what we did with India and Pakistan, you’ll see that we resolved the whole situation. I believe I settled it through trade.”

He added, “The U.S. is doing significant trade with both countries. I don’t feel great saying it, but when something happened two days later, people blamed Trump.”

Claim of 'Key Role' in Reducing Tensions

Trump has previously also claimed to have played a "key role" in de-escalating India-Pakistan tensions. He said there are good people and strong leaders in Pakistan, but India is a close friend of the U.S. To this, South African President Ramaphosa replied, “Modi is our mutual friend.”

Trump had earlier taken credit on social media for a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, even before the official announcement by both nations. He insisted he played a crucial role in facilitating a peaceful resolution.

Former NSA Takes a Dig

Former U.S. National Security Advisor (NSA) John Bolton mocked Trump's statement. He said, “Trump has a habit of taking credit for everything. It’s not against India — it’s just Trump's nature.” He further commented, “I believe he did talk to PM Modi, but as usual, Trump prefers to place himself at the center of every situation.”
